Hi, I’m Fiona Cameron. I’m lucky enough to live in a lovely family home (in decorating terms very much a work in progress…) in a beach side suburb of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. Yes, this is pretty much as amazing as it sounds. The men in my life are my ever-patient husband Mark, who offers the practical (and emotional!) support to my home related projects, and our two fabulous boys. Our latest addition is a fluffy puppy Poppy, who’s hell bent on messing with my well ordered home.
Whilst we can’t all live in the trendy London lofts, chic Parisian apartments, or glamorous Manhattan sets of the interior glossies (although dreaming is fun anyway, right?) I believe that any home can be beautiful and should reflect the unique personalities and lifestyles of its occupants.
Not being trained in design or a professional creative however, I’ve found designing my home to be a daunting experience. Overwhelmed by infinite choice, design indecisiveness has repeatedly frustrated my decorating projects and at times has resulted in overly-cautious and disappointingly bland interiors.
Over time I’ve tackled this by figuring out simple foolproof ways to creating schemes that work and look good. The idea behind this blog is to share those with you, as well as my ongoing adventures in more decisive design. (Well, that the aspiration anyway.) All of the strategies are budget-savvy and you won’t find too much fretting about design “rules” here. (I don’t really know them!) I’m not trying to be original either – home design is tricky enough without heaping that pressure on yourself too. This I find takes much of the stress out of designing a scheme, still allows a personal style to shine through, and makes the whole process a lot more fun.
I hope there is something here to inspire you to design more decisively your own uniquely beautiful home too.
