Today I’m excited to share a new venture with you: an Instagram/Twitter hashtag for interior lovers, designers and brands in Scotland: #designupscotland
I’m launching this tag in collaboration with Mairi Wilks, the Scottish designer and blogger at Mairi Helena.
Why the new tag?
Uniting the Interiors Community in Scotland
There’s a vibrant interiors scene in Scotland. Scotland nurtures and attracts some of the best design talent in the world. And there are plenty of us in Scotland who appreciate fabulous design; businesses which are design related, journalists and bloggers who write about it, and those of us who simply appreciate it in our homes. #designupscotland is a way to bring together designers, retailers, publishers and interiors lovers who share a Scottish connection.
Showcasing Scottish Design
The unique Scottish identity, culture and landscape seems to inspire something distinct in Scottish home and interior design. And it’s by no means all about tartans and tweeds. There is a thriving contemporary design community in Scotland.
Scottish design has appeal to people living in Scotland. Interior design feels authentic and makes the most sense when it incorporates a sense of its own place.
However, Scottish design has an appeal much wider than that too with interior lovers all over the world appreciating the particular appeal of Scottish creativity.
#designupscotland will bring together the best of Scottish design to create a showcase of Scottish design talent.
Promoting Creative Collaborations
Why is it important to unite the Scottish interiors community?
With most design networking and brand/publisher events taking place in London, there are limited opportunities for interiors lovers and professionals based in Scotland to meet face to face, make connections and share creative inspiration.
In an increasingly online world, geography is often no barrier to business, promoting a brand, and reaching an audience. However sometimes there’s no substitute for working locally, connecting in person and delivering a message face to face.
So when it’s important to find a local partner for a collaboration, or an audience for a promotion or event, #designupscotland can provide an easily accessible directory.
Forging Real Life Friendships
Interior fanatics increasingly connect online and particularly on Instagram there’s a healthy and proactive interiors community. These connections can be the basis for real life friendships – online friends meeting up to chat, shop or get creative together. But that can only happen if we can identify our local community in our online interactions. #designupscotland is an easy way for us to identify ourselves as part of the Scottish interiors community.
So if you’re an interiors fanatic in Scotland and you post interiors pics on Instagram, use the tag. It would be great to organise an Insta-meet!
Who is the tag for?
If you’re a designer, retailer, publisher, influencer or interiors addict living or working in or connected with Scotland, and your work or interests are about fresh, expressive, and contemporary Scottish interiors, tag your interiors Instagram posts #designupscotland.
Mairi and I feel passionately about supporting Scottish interiors talent, whether emerging or established, and would like to use #designupscotland to raise awareness of the best of Scottish interiors among our readers and followers.
If you’re a Scottish interiors brand and are interested in your brand or designs being featured on our Instagram accounts or our websites, we’d love to hear from you.
Let’s build a tag together that unites the vibrant, dynamic interiors community in Scotland and showcases the best of the Scottish interiors scene.
