Is it too late to be talking about faux fur? Certainly not if you live in the UK. Spring bulbs may be breaking soil but Storm Henry battering our shores last week, Imogen close on his tail, leaves us in no doubt that we are still very much at the mercy of the worst of winter gales.
Living in a Victorian house is a privilege for which I am grateful most of the time. The down side though are the draughts. Ok, it’s been an exceptional spell of protracted and furious hurricanes, but I swear for much of the winter it’s actually been windy inside.
The current trend for faux fur in home textiles is a Godsend for anyone feeling the chill. Even just the presence of fur in your home hints at cozy comfort. It’s unbelievably snug to huddle under, and remarkably resilient in the face of the multiple demands of family life. And on top of all that, it chalks up a serious luxe score. What’s not to like?
While the fur trend’s been around a while, this winter high street brands have brought some fabulous offerings to the market, making this an affordable look for any budget. There are some great sale bargains to be had right now too.
It’s easy to incorporate faux fur in your home, regardless of whether your overall look is classic, contemporary, scandi, retro or a plain mish mash (like mine). There is a colour and accessory for every scheme. Try one or two of these simple ideas.
Layer your bedding
Throw a faux fur cover on your bed. Perfect for a spot of quiet lounging, you can get cozy without messing up your beautifully made bed. (Ok, so this one is firmly in the domain of my fantasy parallel life, in which quiet lounging and careful bed-making are actual things.)

Style up the sofa
Coming in from the cold, chilled to the bone, it’s almost indescribably lush to snuggle up on the sofa, cocooned in a big furry blankie. Add hot chocolate/whisky toddy according to taste.

Cozy down on a beanbag
Beanbags are a practical addition to any family home. Ideal for the kids to hunker down on to get absorbed in a book or – let’s face it more likely – something on the X-box, leaving the sofa all for you. Patterned fur hides a multitude of grubby sins, and when you’re in full domestic god/goddess mode, the cover can easily be chucked in the wash. Genius.

A Dog’s life?
Let’s not forget our furry friends. Dogs or cats will appreciate a luxury blanket in the colder months too. Protect your sofa from muddy paws or give the pet bed an extra snug lining. Most faux fur throws are machine washable and dry easily, making them practical too.
4. Faux Fur Dog Blanket in Silver Fox, from £70, Charley Chau. Gorgeous dog, sadly, not included.
The trend for faux fur in the home seems set to endure. What a relief. I doubt I would be able to face parting with my furry comforts come the summer, but it appears I will not be forced to choose style over comfort.
What’s your favourite way of cozying up your interior in the winter months? All suggestions welcome.
